So, how do you ‘seem’ to understand jazz music? I’ve read your reviews and the amount we have to ‘read’ you rather than what you write I think misses the mark of what a film review should contain. IMO

However, in comparison to his character progression (or regression depending), those scenes dramatically (acting-wise) brought down the quality and tempo of the movie. Especially the over-dramatic and out-of-leftfield acting against his brothers’ praise in sports..

That’s a little harsh. I’m not arguing why she was in the movie. But you have to admit her part was painfully underwritten. They should have drawn out her character a little more or done away with the subplot altogether. You have to admit, as the movie plays out the girlfriend plot completely stalls out — Her part should have been written up or completely eliminated. That and the fact that the movie isn’t exactly forging new plot territory is what keeps it from being a 5-star movie for me. Still Top Ten of this year for me, though.
