New on Netflix: January 2015

newonnetflix

We’ve got plenty of Netflix additions to report this week as not only is it a new month but also a new year, which means quite a bit of turnover. Perhaps the biggest new title in both the U.S. and Canada is the complete 10 season run of Friends. If you’re looking for some classic films instead, the following have been added (or re-added) to Netflix in the U.S.: Chinatown, The French Connection, Election, Fantasia, The Apartment, Robocop, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Swingers, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the original War of the Worlds.

In Canada, we’ve got The Big Lebowski, The Iron Giant, The Tenant, Hustle & Flow, When Harry Met Sally, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and The Spy Who Came in From the Cold (among others). If you’re only interested in more recent releases, Americans get access to Brick Mansions starring Paul Walker and Better Living Through Chemistry starring Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde while Canadians get Cloud Atlas, Zero Dark Thirty, Ted and Dom Hemingway. Do you see anything here worth queueing up? Check out a bigger list of noteworthy new additions after the jump.

I number of programs I had on my Watch List were removed this month. Wish they could send you a message when something you had bookmarked was about to go so you could catch it before it was too late.

  • Sean

Yeah, that’s annoying. I think they also stopped making expiration dates public so even if you wanted to keep track of this manually, it’s very difficult. I’m not sure what their reasoning is exactly. Maybe they don’t want tons of people binging on something at the last minute before it expires or maybe they just don’t want people to even really be aware that content *can* expire.

  • Bill Hensley

i just go to the website and next to my watchlist i click ‘see all’ and it’ll show which films are about to expire (unfortunately it only shows that about 5 or 6 days prior to it expiring and many films seem to leave at the same time, so i gotta quickly binge about 15 flicks or shows when this happens).

  • Bill Hensley

Side note, Sean, that last one was my first post on your site despite me being a listener for about a year now. Starting as far back as i could on old eps, I’ve been tuned in to the podcast on my 50 minute commute to work every day, at work, at home while i’m cleaning, cooking or making some art, going for a walk or hitting the gym. My wife officially hates you fucks for taking so much attention away from her, but i love you mugs like you were the best pals i never met.

So if you guys ever disband and end the podcast, i will kidnap every goddamn one of you and force you to discuss movies together for the rest of your lives chained up in my attic (or tied up in the back of my car, because i need entertainment while driving around).

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! :D

  • Sean

Glad to have you with us Bill! Thanks for listening.

  • John

Thanks a lot for these lists. Very helpful and thanks for separating out Canada as well. I appreciate it. Great job.

  • ECONOMYpolitica

I watched half of Gandhi. Probably won’t see the other half for another 33 years. Wish Netflix would put expiration dates with the descriptions.
