    I certainly would, I was just thinking that some of these are already pretty long but if it was me I would.

  • I just watched it last night and thought it was amaze ballz. I think it might have something to do with age. ie. how old you are and if you remember sneaking downstairs to watch Showtime in the middle of the night when you were 12.

    Just got back from seeing Inherent Vice, plot is definitely secondary, just like Pynchon’s “The Crying of Lot 49.” I would compare it to The Long Goodbye as well because it deals with the post-hippie era and how things got ugly and fell apart with Manson, Altamont, the increase of hard drug use, etc. What went through my mind throughout was why now? Is Anderson fascinated with 70’s cinema or does he think the story resonates today? I’m not sure…

    Erin Brockovich has a pretty good one but it violates the inside point of view rule.

    Saw IV (oops, that came out as “Saw 4″)..I saw Inherent Vice Saturday and loved it. I do agree that if you focus on plot as primary you might get a headache but it does all makes–sort of–sense and what look like dead ends or red herrings are pretty much all connected. And agree with Jay on the comedic aspects–it surely is a comedy–the characters and situations are just too funny and weird for anyone to think it otherwise, but it’s not “Airplane 3.” One thing I didn’t understand and just seemed weird for weird’s sake was the “Doc” in Doc’s name and the medical office where he keeps shop. Maybe it’s explained and I missed it.

    Paul Thomas Anderson was on a recent episode of WTF and he said there was a scene or two explaining the back story with the doctor’s office but they cut it out because they didn’t think it was really necessary. Essentially he did some favours for the doctor and in exchange he gets to use a back room to run his business.

    This would probably explain his reasoning behind this movie and at least a few of his others (including Boogie Nights which originally started out as a short-film on Dirk Diggler).
