The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies kicked off the 2015 movie season with its third straight victory at the box office, keeping the sole new release at bay along with the previous week’s competition. The final installment in Peter Jackson’s Middle-Earth Saga added another $21.9 million and has now grossed $722 million worldwide putting it in line to finish significantly lower the previous two films. Into the Woods and Unbroken weren’t far off but remained in second and third place with $19 million and $18.3 million respectively. The only new movie in wide release, The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death, opened in fourth place with $15.15 million, which is not bad considering that the original made $20.9 million with a lot more marketing and with Daniel Radcliffe as well. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb rounded out the top 5. The Hobbit should meet is match next weekend when it goes up against Taken 3.

Will we be getting your review of the violent year today?

  • Sean

No, we are reviewing Inherent Vice on this week’s podcast. A Most Violent Year is only playing in NY and LA currently.

  • Lark

Are you doing a group review of “Stranger by the lake”?
I was delighted to see that Jay decided to defy the FJ-ban, went ahead and stuck the tip in.

  • Sean

Not this week. I’d like to watch it at some point but haven’t had a chance yet.

  • ECONOMYpolitica

Isn’t that a gay movie? Are you gay?

  • Captain Morgan

Sean, I’m still struggling to know exactly what kind of questions you want for episode 500. Let us know bud.

  • Sean

The show is probably going to be a lot more off the cuff than usual episodes. So I’m thinking behind the scenes questions, personal questions, big questions about movies in general that could get a lot of people engaged in a discussion. Also things related to inside jokes and long running debates and any questions you might have for specific guests as well.

  • Captain Morgan

Kinda hard to make questions for guests that aren’t announced yet though :-/ Ok I’ll give it a shot
