Neill Blomkamp Reveals Concept Art from Unauthorized Alien Sequel / Spin-Off

blomkamp

I’m not quite sure what to make of this, but District 9 director Neill Blomkamp sparked some excitement online this week after he posted some concept art for a previously unannounced sci-fi movie that he was developing. The film appears to be tied to the Alien franchise in some way, as it includes images of Xenomorphs as well as Ripley and Hicks. He posted the images to Instagram, stating, “Was working on this. Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though.”

This has lead some to speculate that he may have been working on Prometheus or the upcoming Prometheus sequel with Ridley Scott at some point. However, he has since clarified on Twitter that the studio was not involved or even aware he was working on these ideas… so was this just going to be his own personal fan film? Or was he hired separately by Ridley Scott himself? I don’t really understand what it means, but it is certainly intriguing. Would you have liked to see Neill Blomkamp be involved in an Alien or Prometheus film? Check out the concept art after the jump.

wow some of the stuff looks awesome especially the one where ripley is wearing the alien head like a space helmet. Was she going to pilot the alien craft like the Space Jockey?? But the one pic where the alien ship is in the hangar is just awesome!

I really like Neil Blomkamp’s work and though his last installment wasn’t his best I think his talents would be great for an alien film!

Ridley hasn’t been at his best for a long time. Neil would infuse some new freshness into the franchise for sure. But unfortunately it’s not to be.

It was probably going to be an unsolicited pitch, then.

I hate Blomkamp, but I could go for a better final film for Ripley than we got in Resurrection.

I was always hoping that he would direct an Alien film, especially after watching District 9 & Elisyium. His films definitely have that Blade Runner meets Appleseed meets Halo approach…. movies that all seem inspired by Dan Obannon’s Alien universe. I’d rather see him do this, than see Ridley Scott do another
“Non xenomorph” Alien spin off…. (from the Alien universe). When watching his film Elysium, I couldn’t help but think about Alien Resurrection…on how they talked about how Earth was a $#!+hole, which didn’t seem that far off from how gritty, futuristic, and devastating Earth looked in Elisyium; where just about everything is automated and controlled by computers and robotics. Adding Neill’s graphic violence and visual terrain in a “Xenomorph” Alien film could be pretty awesome. Don’t get me wrong… i love Ridley Scotts sci-fi flicks, but I gotta admit, I wasn’t all that happy that HR Giger’s signature creature wasn’t a main threat in Prometheus. That reanimated Fifield zombie just wasn’t doing it for me. I’d rather go for Neill’s version. But that’s me.

Even if nothing comes of this, I enjoyed scrolling through those 4 photos more than I enjoyed watchin Prometheus.

Don’t know how I feel about Blomkamp as ANY info on the next Alien film titillates me to no end.

That said, all the images are so cool, particularly Ripley with the Xenomorph helmet.

Looks like an idea for an alternative Alien 3 which would be kind of interesting. Lots of people are making remakes and reboots, but has any franchise ever just straight up tried a re imagining of a sequel that already exists?

I love how he just innocently posts these like he is not clearly expecting to drum up some excitement and interest. I agree with another poster that he is pitching an idea to FOX for an alien film, and he is backing up his pitch with some social media buzz.

The most intriguing image for me is the Engineers ship in the hanger.
    WTtf indeed.

I always thought there could be potential to go this route i.e. remaking a sequel.
