Director Peter Strickland (Berberian Sound Studio) was back at the Toronto International Film Festival this year with his latest film, The Duke of Burgundy, and while it didn’t seem to be attract quite as much attention initially, it is something that people have continued to whisper about months later. The movie is an erotic melodrama about a wealthy butterfly collector who initiates an unusual relationship with her new housekeeper. However, from what I hear, the kinky sex in Fifty Shades of Grey has nothing on this flick, and although that could result in something lurid and trashy, it looks like Strickland’s film is a beautiful and mesmerizing cinematic experience.
