Ryan Reynolds Officially Signs on for Deadpool Movie

Although it’s looking pretty certain that Ryan Reynolds will not be reprising his role as the Green Lantern in any upcoming DC Universe movies, he will still get the chance to headline another comic book movie in the near future. Earlier this year Fox finally got serious about making a movie based on Deadpool, the fast-talking mercenary who appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009. Reynolds played the character in that film, but it wasn’t entirely clear if he was still attached to the solo movie since it wouldn’t be directly connected to the X-Men franchise and no deal was yet in place. Now this week we are hearing that he is on board and all systems are go. Hit the jump for more details.
According to Deadline, Ryan Reynolds is now in the process of closing a deal to star in Deadpool for 20th Century Fox. Yesterday he also posted a message on Twitter essentially confirming the news. Tim Miller will direct from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland).
If all goes according to plan, production will start sometime in March. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on Feb. 12th, 2016, just three months before X-Men: Apocalypse. What do you think, is this exciting news? Will Deadpool break Ryan Reynolds out of his box office slump?
