Suicide Squad Cast Officially Announced, Oprah Winfrey Rumoured for Villain

After a few months of the usual rumours and speculation, Warner Brothers has officially revealed the primary cast of David Ayer’s upcoming Suicide Squad movie… and guess what? In this case, almost every rumour we heard about the film turned out to be right on the money. Not only have Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Jai Courtney all signed on, but so have Will Smith and Tom Hardy. That’s a pretty impressive line-up for an adaptation of a comic book title that the average moviegoer probably has never heard of. There is one new name on the list that we hadn’t heard previously and that is Cara Delevingne who will be playing the Enchantress. Hit the jump to see the rundown of the full cast and the role that each will be playing.
According to the press release from Warner Brothers, the “all-star roster” of actors that have signed on for the Suicide Squad is as follows:
- Will Smith as Deadshot
- Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg
- Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
- Jared Leto as the Joker
- Jai Courtney as Boomerang
- Cara Delevingne as Enchantress
The one thing that differs from previous reports is that Will Smith will play Deadshot and Jai Courtney will play Captain Boomerang, not the other way around. That’s a little bit surprising mainly because Deadshot typically wears a mask and you wouldn’t expect them to cover up the face of the movie’s biggest star. But hey, I’m sure they’ll find a way around it. Either way, it’s surprising to see Will Smith join an ensemble cast like this. Clearly he must see the value in being a part of a comic book movie universe.
This big announcement also coincides with another juicy rumour that has to do with one of the film’s supporting players. Variety is reporting that Oprah Winfrey is the WB’s top choice to play Amanda Waller, the government agent who oversees the team. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer are also said to be under consideration for the role, believed by some to be the primary antagonist of the film. Suicide Squad is expected to hit theatres on Aug. 5th, 2016… how do you feel about the way it is shaping up?
