Last month Marvel announced their full Phase Three line-up, including the next Captain America movie which has been revealed to be Captain America: Civil War. We already knew that this was a likely scenario and that Robert Downey Jr. was in talks for a major role in the film. However, one thing that has remained unclear up until is who the main villain of the movie might be. Well, just a couple of days ago it was announced that Daniel Bruhl has signed on for an unspecified role in Captain America: Civil War with some insiders claiming that he will be a villain. But if that is the case, who could he be playing?

According to a press release from Marvel, Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds, Rush) has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War. Kevin Feige praised his “ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances” but offered very little additional info about his involvement. Variety, however, is claiming that not only will he be one of the villains in Captain America: Civil War, but also potentially the “top menace” in Doctor Strange as well.

This has fueled plenty of speculation among comic book fans, who believe that he is probably playing either Baron Mordo or Baron Zemo. The former is a Transylvanian nobleman who studied under the Ancient One and became an enemy of Doctor Strange, while the latter is a Nazi scientist who built weapons of mass destruction for Hitler’s army and faced off against Captain America. The fact that Bruhl is German might lend more credibility to Zemo, but at this point anything is possible. Do you think Daniel Bruhl will make a good villain? Who do you think he might be playing?
