Christoph Waltz Joins Bond 24

Although the next James Bond film is scheduled to start shooting next month, we still don’t know what the movie is called or what it will be about. That could be because they are still feverishly doing some last minute rewrites the film (last week The New Yorker inadvertently revealed that Edge of Tomorrow writer Jez Butterworth also did some uncredited work on it), but it could also be because they are waiting to make a big announcement once they finish casting the film. Last month Lea Seydoux and Dave Bautista both landed roles in the movie, but up until now, they were still looking for a main villain. Now it appears that they may have found their man and it just happens to be Academy Award-winning actor Christoph Waltz.
According to The Daily Mail, Christoph Waltz has joined Bond 24 in a significant, but still unknown role. Some sources are saying that the role is “a nemesis of sorts” but others are saying it’s not quite so clear cut. Another source is quoted as saying, “just because he has played bad guys in other movies doesn’t mean he’s going to be the baddie here.”
I have to admit, my first thought is that it is a little disappointing to see him being cast as a villain once again, but at least this time he would likely be playing it a little more straight. Previous rumours had pegged Chiwetel Ejiofor to play the big bad, but we haven’t heard anything about that in a while. What do you think? Would Christoph Waltz be an inspired casting choice to play a Bond villain or is that just a little too obvious?
