Earlier this week we heard that a couple of actors were on the verge of signing on to star in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie for Warner Brothers. Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) was reportedly in talks to play Harley Quinn, while Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) was thinking about trying to fill Heath Ledger’s shoes as The Joker. We are continuing to hear reports that Will Smith and Tom Hardy are also being courted to join the film, but now we have another more likely name to add to the list of possibilities. Live Free or Die Hard star Jai Courtney is supposedly circling a major role in the film and we’re hearing that he might be playing Deadshot. Hit the jump for details.

According to Variety, Jai Courtney is in talks to join the cast of Suicide Squad, potentially as the Batman villain Deadshot. Deadshot aka Floyd Lawton is a hired assassin known for his sharpshooting skills and also his desire to die in a spectacular way. He supposedly has a “strong bond” with Catwoman, although there is no indication that she will appear in the film.

The article also notes that Tom Hardy is being pursued to play Rick Flag, the team leader, while Will Smith might portray The Flash villain Captain Boomerang. Although I still have a hard time believing that Will Smith has any interest in joining Suicide Squad, Jai Courtney is precisely the kind of guy I would expect to see in this movie. His next on-screen appearances will be in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, The Divergent Series: Insurgent and Terminator: Genisys. How do you feel about the latest Suicide Squad casting news?
