Evil Dead TV Series Coming to Starz in 2015, Bruce Campbell Will Play Ash

Well what do you know? After years of rumours about Bruce Campbell possibly returning to the role of Ash, it looks like fans will finally get their wish. He is indeed going to star in an Evil Dead sequel, but there’s one catch: it won’t be a movie. Instead, it will be a new TV series called Ash vs. Evil Dead and it is coming to Starz in 2015. Sam Raimi will direct the first episode and will serve as executive producer along with Campbell and their long-time creative partner Rob Tapert. Here’s what he had to say about the announcement:

“Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

The series was written by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy (Manhattan, Desperate Housewives), and it will consist of 10 half-hour episodes. Starz previously worked with Raimi and Tapert on Spartacus. It’s unclear what this means for Sony’s own rebooted Evil Dead movie franchise, but it seems safe to assume that it will not stop their own plans for a sequel.

Raimi did announce an Evil Dead TV series at Comic-Con earlier this year but it was hard to tell just how real it might be. Now it seems clear that this will be the Army of Darkness sequel that he has been hinting at, although we still don’t know if they will continue from that film’s original post-apocalyptic ending. The only plot info so far is that it will involve Ash fighting a Deadite plague. Are you psyched for Ash vs. Evil Dead?
