John Carpenter’s Lost Themes Album Coming in February

lostthemes

If you thought that horror legend John Carpenter had pretty much resigned himself to doing nothing but sitting at home and playing video games these days, you’d only be half right. He has been sitting at home, but for the first time in his career, he has also been composing new music that isn’t being made to accompany a film. His very first solo album Lost Themes will arrive early next year, and it really couldn’t come at a better time.

Although his movies have been undergoing a bit of a renaissance as of late, his music has also been getting plenty of love with various hip hop artists sampling and remixing his well-known themes in recent years. Now he is digging out his synthesizers to deliver some brand new material which, as it turns out, sounds exactly like his old material. Lost Themes will be released via Sacred Bones Records on Feb. 3rd; check out the full track list and the first song “Vortex” after the jump and see what you think.

2. Obsidian
3. Fallen
4. Domain
5. Mystery
6. Abyss

This too awesome. Bringing back that 70’s/80’s nostalgia. Makes makes me think of Escape from NY, Big Trouble in little China, and for some reason…. the first Terminator
