Sony Contemplating Spider-Man All-Star Female Team-Up Movie

Over the past few months, it has become pretty clear that Sony really has no idea what they’re going to do with The Amazing Spider-Man movie franchise in the immediate future. Back in July, they announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would be pushed back in favour of The Sinister Six movie, which we later found out would potentially be a “soft reboot” of the franchise with a brand new Spider-Man who teams up with several villains for the greater good. At the same time, it was also being rumoured that they might be working with Marvel to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which would be a pretty big deal indeed. Somewhere in there, we also heard that they were trying to set up a female-led Spider-Man spin-off, although it was unclear which character that movie would focus on. Now we are hearing something even more ambitious could be happening with that project: instead of just one female character, it might bring all of them together in one movie. Hit the jump for the full scoop.
According to Badass Digest, there is a mysterious project being developed by Sony under the working title Glass Ceiling. It is based on an original concept rather than something previously done in the comics, although it would feature several pre-existing Spidey characters. The idea is that the movie would bring together all of the female superheroes in the Spider-Man universe as a single team unit.
Just how many female superheroes are there in the Spider-Man universe? Well, as it turns out… not very many. The obvious ones are The Black Cat, Silver Sable, Spider-Girl, Spider-Woman and Silk, the latter of which is fairly new. Firestar could also be a possibility, although the rights for that character remain unclear. The weird thing is, only Black Cat has appeared in any previous Spider-Man movies, and only as her alter-ego Felicia Hardy (played by Felicity Jones). A team-up like this might make sense, mainly because most of these characters probably couldn’t support their own solo movie. But on the other hand, if Sony can’t get moviegoers excited about the major Spider-Man characters, how can they hope to launch a successful movie based on these D-listers? Would you be interested in an all-star female Spider-Man movie?
