The Gambler Red Band Trailer Starring Mark Wahlberg

thegambler

Although Mark Wahlberg had a big whiff at the Oscars last year with Lone Survivor, he’s looking to sneak back into contention this year with a remake of the 1974 James Toback classic The Gambler. The original film starred James Caan as a Harvard University-educated English professor with a gambling addiction who goes to Las Vegas in order erase his debts and ends up falling further in the hole. Although the remake was originally intended for Martin Scorsese to direct, Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) eventually took the reins. The cast also includes John Goodman, Jessica Lange, Brie Larson, Michael K. Williams and the script was written by William Monahan (The Departed). The Gambler hits select theatres on Dec. 19th; check out the red band trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I can see why Scorsese didn’t direct it, it looks too similar in tone and subject matter to his other work.
Looks like a decent Christmas watch though.
Goodman looks very Lawrence Tierney here

Sign me up! The original was pretty ridiculous when James Caan doubles down on a Hard 19!!!!! So stupid! lol.. this looks like some cool high stakes gambling action though, with multiple locations maybe Macau. Here’s another John Goodman film where he keeps fucking with an addictive gambler.
