Monday Morning Box Office Report: Gone Girl Impales Dracula Untold

Despite the fact that industry website Box Office Mojo was offline for the past few days (and looked like it might shut down for good), the box office numbers were (gasp!) still tallied over the weekend and David Fincher’s Gone Girl came out on top once again. The thriller added another $26.8 million to its total while Dracula Untold was the strongest of the new releases with a surprisingly solid $23.5 million debut. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day placed third followed by The Conjuring spin-off Annabelle, which dropped to fourth. The Judge opened in fifth with $13.3 million, which isn’t bad considering it was essentially sold on Robert Downey Jr. and not much else. Elsewhere, Addicted earned just $7.6 million, which was good enough for the #7 spot, while a documentary called Meet the Mormons came out of nowhere to crack the top 10.

1. Gone Girl — $26.8 million
2. Dracula Untold — $23.5 million
3. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day — $19.1 million
4. Annabelle — $16.4 million
5. The Judge — $13.3 million
6. The Equalizer — $9.7 million
7. Addicted — $7.6 million
8. The Maze Runner — $7.5 million
9. The Boxtrolls — $6.7 million
10. Meet the Mormons — $3.5 million

  • If Gone Girl continues it’s success, do you think Fincher will get to make his 20,000 Leauges Under The Sea movie? I would love that.

It would certainly give him some leverage to get that project off the ground.

I was really unimpressed with GONE GIRL. Thought THE DROP was much better. Am I crazy?

Was really looking forward to Boxtrolls based on the trailer. A shame it couldn’t generate more fanfare opening week.
