Monday Morning Box Office Report: Gone Girl Kills It

David Fincher’s Gone Girl packed ‘em in over the weekend, debuting to a solid $38 million which puts it past Panic Room as Fincher’s biggest opening weekend to date. However, the James Wan-produced horror flick Annabelle was equally as impressive, earning $37 million and just barely missing out on first place as well. The Equalizer dropped to third while The Boxtrolls and The Maze Runner rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, the Left Behind remake starring Nicolas Cage opened in sixth place with $6.8 million, which isn’t quite as good as some of the other faith-based films have done this year, but also not a complete disaster. The weekend’s other semi-wide new release, The Good Lie starring Reese Witherspoon, earned just $935,000 on over 400 screens.
