New to Theatres This Weekend: Gone Girl, Annabelle, Left Behind

There’s a decent battle shaping up at the box office this weekend to kick off October as David Fincher’s Gone Girl goes up against The Conjuring spin-off / prequel Annabelle. The former would seem to have the edge based on the popularity of Gillian Flynn’s novel and the resurgent star power of Ben Affleck, but we should never underestimate the drawing power of a horror movie in October (even though reviews have been pretty lacklustre). Elsewhere, a remake of the Rapture-based apocalypse flick Left Behind starring Nicolas Cage is also in wide release while The Good Lie starring Reese Witherspoon is debuting on almost 500 screens. Jason Reitman’s latest film Men, Women and Children is also opening in select theatres. What will you be watching this weekend?
