P.T. Anderson’s Inherent Vice Trailer

Well it’s about damn time! The first trailer for one of the most anticipated movies of the year has finally arrived and it looks like it’s going to be one hell of a good time. P.T. Anderson’s Inherent Vice, based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, has been described as a psychedelic detective story set in 1970s Los Angeles with plenty of broad comedy thrown in for good measure, and by all accounts it looks pretty weird. It may not be Oscar material, but who cares? With a cast that includes Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Maya Rudolph, Michael K. Williams and Martin Short, you simply can’t go wrong. Inherent Vice hits select theatres on Dec. 12th before expanding further in January; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

This appears to be a Coen Bros. film with the serial numbers filed off

It looks like The Big Lebowski but other than that it looks nothing like a “Coen Brothers Film”.

  • Henrik

Looks like a Coen Bros. ripoff more like it… Did not really seem very funny, other than Joaquin Phoenix doing some stuff

  • MattTO

Every ensemble-cast-comedy-drama is a Coen Brothers film, silly!

Hard to get an idea of the tone of a PTA film by just watching a trailer. I think it’s pretty safe to say that Inherent Vice will “feel” nothing like a Coen Brothers film once we get to see the full thing.

If this is PTA’s version of The Big Lebowski, I’m all in!! If it has a Boogie Night’s tone, I’m all in!!

This does look good but must admit that Phoenix looks the weakest character. How did Woody Harrelson not get this role?
