Weekly Poll Results: Best Kevin Smith Movie

Last week we asked Film Junk readers to pick Kevin Smith’s best movie, and putting aside all of the cheeky requests for a “none of the above” option, it was his very first feature that came out on top. 20 years later, Clerks is still regarded as his finest work, and it is arguably his most honest and least self-aware film. It is, however, a bit surprising that Dogma came in second, the fantastical (and initially quite controversial) religious-themed comedy starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Chasing Amy placed third, while Mallrats and Clerks II rounded out the top 5. Red State was in sixth (I thought it might end up a little higher) while Jersey Girl was predictably dead last. Either way, it seems that his early work is far more respected than his most recent stuff. Do you agree with these results?

1. Clerks — 30%
2. Dogma — 22%
3. Chasing Amy — 18%
4. Mallrats — 9%
5. Clerks II — 6%
6. Red State — 4%
6. Zack and Miri Make a Porno — 4%
8. Cop Out — 3%
9. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back — 2%
10. Jersey Girl — 2%

I haven’t watched Dogma in quite a few years, but I remember liking it a lot. That and Zack and Miri Make a Porno are the only Kevin Smith movies I like at all (of the ones I’ve seen).
