Prometheus 2 Won’t Have Any Xenomorphs In It

With Ridley Scott starting to do press for his upcoming film Exodus: Gods and Kings, it’s pretty clear that he’s going to be faced with plenty of questions about the many other projects he has in development as well. In particular, fans are desperate for more details on the proposed Blade Runner and Prometheus sequels, even though it looks like his next movie will actually be The Martian. Recently, Scott revealed that he had met with Harrison Ford about Blade Runner 2 the night before his accident on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He also let slip some even more juicy info about Prometheus 2, although it’s unclear what exactly it might mean for the film. Apparently the sequel is going to distance itself further from the Alien series in a very literal way, because there won’t actually be any aliens in it. Here’s what he had to say:

“The beast is done. Cooked… I got lucky meeting [Alien designer] H.R. Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four [he has conveniently forgotten the AvP movies], I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

So even though Prometheus very clearly seemed to be laying out origins of the xenomorphs, he doesn’t seem particularly interested in following that up with the next film. That seems a bit different from his originally stated intention of starting a new trilogy that would take us right up the events of the first Alien film. But does he mean there won’t be any horror elements in the next movie at all, or just that the creatures will be unfamiliar ones?

Dark Horse Comics are already exploring the more direct connections between Prometheus and Alien with their Prometheus: Fire and Stone comic book series. Still, as far as the movie sequel is concerned, the more it can shake off the mythology of the Alien series, the easier it will be for fans to accept Prometheus as its own thing. How do you feel about this latest bit of Prometheus 2 news?

Sounds like a real disappointment, knowing that there will not be any Xenomorphs in the sequel, considering the fact that before the first film hit theaters we were told that it was going to be a prequel that involved giant xenomorph s, and all we got was a deformed looking zombie and engineer. That infant alien at the end of the film barely counts, being that it wasn’t a threat to any of the characters of the first film.

My main reason for seeing Prometheus was so I could get to see another movie involving the famous Xenos (in action) …. and that never happened. We were told one thing and got another….. Ridley Scott is a great director and Prometheus was better than the AVP films (in my opinion) but I strongly feel that something huge was missing from Prometheus……
    THE FUCKING ALIENS

…..And saying that he’s not going to use them in the sequel feels like a big “f**k you” to Dan Obannon and H.R. Giger. A lot of people disliked Prometheus for that exact reason, but hearing this news, almost sounds like Scott doesn’t really give a shit what Alien fans like.
It sounds like he is the one who’s tired of Giger’s creation, and isn’t going to use what made the Alien films special. Sorry but those Engineers really don’t seem all that creepy. Just tall dudes with pale skin. I’ll be honest…. the last quarter of Prometheus seemed to fall flat to me, and I could be wrong about what could be expected in prometheus sequel. but so far I’m not sold on what I’m hearing about prometheus 2. The first film was like watching a fast and furious movie with a race track, but no cars. Don’t piss on the franchise and then say that it’s just raining.

Oh, fuck off Scott. Pretentious douchebag.

More junior high level philosophical bullshit then? More giant steroid-ridden greek dudes?

    No thanks.

And I hope Blade Runner II dies on the vine.

No, I think this is a great stand to take. I have no interest in the story of the xenomorphs beyond what was already told in the previous Alien movies. I want to spend more time in the setting of those movies with creatures I haven’t seen a million times. Prometheus is a misunderstood modern classic.

I don’t care, i just want a good movie. Maybe now that my expectations are considerably lowered i’ll be in for a surprise.

I think it´s a good idea, since they could be many more “stange” and “ugly” things on the Engineers World, and everyone was a really hyped before Prom. about the “Pilot” and what and were he was from. Not so much about a “new” Alien (in whatever form), and imagine a Prometheus without any “Alien, that would be a good movie without a bad plotpoint. So lets see what ….ed up things are the engineers up to, gigers books should give good idea.

Looking forward to it. Let Prometheus be its own thing, the engineers are scary enough.

  • ReelJunkie

Well this lowers expectations further. Esp after seeing how bad the first one was.

Let Prometheus be its own thing, another plain sequel to Alien would be pretty uninteresting at this point and even boring to make. If Scott doesn’t feel he can bring something new or intriguing to the Alien universe it would be pointless to make that film just to “please” people. I would much rather see him work on something he’s passionate about and that seems to be the case with Prometheus. Prometheus works just fine as a (very) loosely linked universe to that of Alien’s. The Engineers would be a great subject to expand on in the sequel, although it will be a tough task keeping them menacing and mysterious and… relevant. Looking forward to what they’ll cook up. And if there are going to be three films, they can connect the Prometheus and Alien universes in that one, maybe in a similar way they did at the end of Prometheus.

    Well said.
