Here’s the first U.S. trailer for Force Majeure, the acclaimed film by Swedish director Ruben Ostlund that is starting to build momentum for a possible Oscar nomination in the foreign language category next year. The movie premiered at Cannes in May where it won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize and continued to earn rave reviews this month at TIFF. The film is a dark comedy about a family on vacation in the French Alps. When a sudden avalanche threatens to hit a mountainside restaurant, the family patriarch abandons his wife and children and makes a run for it… which understandably puts him in the doghouse afterward. Magnolia will give Force Majeure a limited release stateside on Oct. 24th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
