Jason Schwartzman is one of those actors that people really seem to love or hate, but as someone who falls into the former camp, I am always excited to see him take on a leading role in a new movie. Listen Up Philip is an indie film that seems almost tailor-made for him, in some ways picking up where his character left off on the HBO series Bored to Death. Schwartzman plays Philip, a self-absorbed writer who is struggling to maintain a relationship with his girlfriend (Elisabeth Moss) while stressing over the release of his second novel. Directed by Alex Ross Perry (The Color Wheel), the movie generated positive reviews at Sundance earlier this year and looks to embrace a cool retro aethetic with a Woody Allen vibe. Listen Up Philip hits select theatres on Oct. 17th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
