Sylvester Stallone to Direct and Star in Rambo: Last Blood?

We’ve been hearing about the possibility of a fifth (and probably final) Rambo movie for what seems like ages now, but at this point we’re still no closer to knowing if such a project is actually in development or, more importantly, if Stallone is even interested in doing it. Last year we heard that a Rambo TV series was in the works, but that Stallone would not be starring in it. Then earlier this year there was a press release from a German distributor claiming that Rambo V was finally happening and that Avi Lerner would be producing it. It still seemed a bit sketchy and Stallone remained mum on the subject. Now this week we are hearing that the next Rambo film has a title and that Stallone will be back in the director’s chair. But is there any truth to this rumour?

According to Coming Soon, the next Rambo film will be titled Rambo: Last Blood, bringing the franchise full circle. Stallone will direct and star in the film and Avi Lerner will produce for Millennium Films. At this time, the plot details are still unknown.

It’s worth noting that the source of the information happens to be a reader going by the name “nopr100″, which doesn’t exactly scream legitimacy. However, generally Coming Soon is a pretty reliable site and they probably wouldn’t report this scoop unless they had reason to believe it. Back in 2011, Millennium hired Sean Hood to write a script called Rambo: Last Stand, based on a story by Stallone himself. That title is pretty close to Last Blood, and it seems likely to coincide with previous reports of Rambo going up against a Mexican cartel. What do you think, are you still interested in another Rambo film? How do you feel about the proposed title Last Blood?

Any subtitle is going to be met with derision and Last Blood is a little too on the nose, but I am all for bringing Rambo back to U.S. soil and closing the series.
I just hope they keep the violence strong and bring back Dennehy.

The most recent Rambo was actually the best one in my opinion. Stallone is one of the few (only?) 80s action stars that has succeeded in bridging inch the gap between 80’s and whatever we are calling this era.
