The Town That Dreaded Sundown Trailer

Is there anyone making horror movies in Hollywood right now other than Jason Blum? The producer who brought us Paranormal Activity, Sinister and Insidious is becoming pretty prolific as of late and his latest project is a reboot / sequel to the 1976 cult horror flick The Town That Dreaded Sundown. The original film was loosely based on a true story about a masked serial killer who stalked the small town of Texarkana, Texas, and it was apparently an influence on ’80s slasher flicks, in particular Friday the 13th.

Now the Phantom Killer has returned in a new movie directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (American Horror Story) and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Carrie). The cast includes Addison Timlin, Gary Cole, Spencer Treat Clark, Joshua Leonard and Veronica Cartwright, but perhaps the most interesting thing about the project is that it marks the return of Orion Pictures! The Town That Dreaded Sundown hits theatres on Oct. 16th; check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  • Reminds me of the opening to Zodiac, just not as scary.

The original seems like an inspiration to Zodiac a bit, at least it’s definitely a vibe I got when I watched a few years back.

    Looks decent

  • T. Heilman

Visually it looks nice and the killer’s look recalls Sergio Martino’s Torso.
My issue is what looks like a Texas Chainsaw 3-D cast.
Can’t they cast anyone over 30 in a film anymore?
One of the best things about the original was that it was populated with seasoned cast members playing older characters.

Loving the original Orion logo! I would almost go to the movie just to see it on the big screen.
