Monday Morning Box Office Report: Guardians of the Galaxy Wins Again by Default

boxoffice

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy continues to chug along on impulse power as the lack of new releases created the equivalent of a box office black hole. The top 12 made just over $50 million combined, which is the lowest total we’ve seen in two years and Guardians led the pack with a paltry $10 million. The rest of the top 10 was almost identical to the previous week as well, although As Above, So Below dropped a couple of spots while Lucy slipped past The Expendables 3 to re-enter the top 10. The week’s only new release, The Identical, bucked the trend of recent faith-based films and tanked hard, opening in 11th place with $1.91 million. Next weekend, the Guardians may finally meet their match in the form of… Dolphin Tale 2.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy — $10.2M
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — $6.5M
3. If I Stay — $5.8M
4. Let’s Be Cops — $5.4M
5. The November Man — $4.2M
6. As Above, So Below — $3.7M
7. When the Game Stands Tall — $3.7M
8. The Giver — $3.6M
9. The Hundred-Foot Journey — $3.2M
10. Lucy — $2M

If Guardians manages to top next week too (which it should be able to), how many weeks will that be?
