Justin Lin in Talks for True Detective Season 2

There has been a fair bit of speculation regarding the second season of HBO’s True Detective over the past few months, but with a production start date looming later this month, it is finally time to get down to brass tacks. Back in July we heard that Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch were in talks for two of the lead roles, and although we still haven’t heard anything official on that front, they appear to be locked in. Recently Vince Vaughn also began circling a potential villain role (though not necessarily the main villain) and Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss is still believed to be the frontrunner for the female lead. But who will be behind the camera this time around? Cary Fukunaga, who just snagged an Emmy for Outstanding Directing, won’t be returning and instead HBO is looking to use multiple helmers on Season 2. Now we know who one of those directors will be.
According to THR, Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is in talks to helm two episodes from the upcoming second season of True Detective. Talks are supposedly still at an early stage, but if everything works out, he might end up doing the first two episodes. A lot will depend on scheduling, however, since he is also working on the CBS series Scorpion and is attached to several big screen projects including the next Bourne movie and a Shaolin Temple remake.
The second season of True Detective will run eight episodes, just like the previous one, so we can probably expect deals with a few other directors to be announced soon as well. William Friedkin previously hinted that he might be involved, although there have been no additional updates on that possibility. Either way, it will be interesting to see if using multiple directors will hurt the overall cohesiveness of the next chapter. What do you think, is Justin Lin and inspired choice to direct the next season of True Detective or is this a bad start?
