New on Netflix: September 2014

I’ve been meaning to add a weekly Netflix column to the site for a while now, especially since the majority of our readers probably have no interest in DVD and Blu-ray releases anymore. So here you go… you’re welcome! I might experiment with the format a little bit over the next little while, but for now, the plan is to focus on U.S. and Canada only. Ideally I’d like to be able to include expiring titles as well, but from what I understand Netflix no longer makes that information available.

Highlights in the U.S. this month include the Robin Williams comedy Good Morning, Vietnam, P.T. Anderson’s There Will Be Blood, Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Spaceballs, Crocodile Dundee, and a pair of ’90s Billy Bob Thornton thrillers: Sling Blade and A Simple Plan. Meanwhile, on Netflix Canada, they continue to bring fairly recent releases like The Dark Knight Rises, 12 Years a Slave and Snow White and the Huntsman along with some classics like Chinatown, The Untouchables and Forrest Gump.     By the way, my recommendation for a great thematic NetFlix Triple-bill would be Blue Run, Whitewash, and A Simple Plan. Now if only Blood Simple were available it would be the perfect 4-pack.

    This is a nice addition Sean. But keep up the new Blu Release announcements.
    There are still a ton of us collectors out there who scoff at the markedly inferior streaming image.
    The future belongs to the physical loyalists!

    Didn’t even realize Netflix still offers Snail Mail delivery. In Canada at least, it’s always been online-only. Physical delivery medium over here wouldn’t be cost-effective.

    OK, What will happen when there are no more Blu Ray and DVD´s, well then everything will be free. Why go to the cinema, why pay 10 Bucks when everything is free. But…but what when nobody will give money to make a movie like the lone ranger and Interstellar?
