The Tick Possibly Being Resurrected as an Amazon Original Series

Back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, it was a great time to be a fan of The Tick, Ben Edlund’s cult comic book series about a nigh invincible blue superhero and his sidekick Arthur, a former accountant wearing a moth suit. The comic was turned into an animated series that ran for three seasons and a live-action series that was slightly less successful, lasting just eight episodes before being cancelled. Since then, Ben Edlund has gone on to become a writer and producer on such shows as Angel, Supernatural and Revolution, but The Tick has mostly faded from the public eye. This week, however, we are hearing reports that the live action series is in the process of being resurrected. Is it time for The Tick to once again dispense two-fisted justice on the small screen?
According to People, Amazon is looking to partner with Sony to revive The Tick as an Amazon Original Series. Details are scarce at the moment, but Ben Edlund is said to be on board as writer and producer while Patrick Warburton has supposedly signed on to reprise the lead role. No word on whether or not any other cast members might return, including Nestor Carbonell as Batmanuel.
At this point it is still just a rumour, but I think it makes a lot of sense. The Tick is one of many shows that failed to find an audience on primetime network TV but seems perfectly suited for the various streaming services. The only problem is that superhero parodies are a dime a dozen these days, but if you ask me The Tick was always a little more than that. What do you think, does The Tick live action series deserve a second chance?
