New to Theatres This Weekend: The November Man, As Above So Below, The Congress

moviesnovemberman

As we’ve come to expect, the summer movie season will go out with a whimper rather than a bang by pitting two somewhat uninspired new releases against the reigning summer champion Guardians of the Galaxy. Roger Donaldson’s The November Man will try to hang a new spy franchise on former 007 Pierce Brosnan while As Above So Below offers the requisite low budget horror fare. Jon Favreau’s Chef is also taking advantage of the lack of competition by heading back to theatres and Ghostbusters is getting a theatrical re-release for its 30th anniversary. In limited release, we also have Ari Folman’s live-action / animated sci-fi satire The Congress, Elmore Leonard’s Life of Crime starring Jennifer Aniston, and Cantinflas, a biopic about the “Mexican Charlie Chaplin”. What will you be watching this weekend?

Another film featuring a suited man jumping over various obstacles with a female in tow holding hands?
    And Pierce Brosnan too?
    Not interested.

aaarrgghh… of course not ” As Above, So Below”..
Frank still holds on to his ban of “no horror movies” on Filmjunk. He must be obeyed.

It’s more for the sake of convenience this week but we’ll probably do As Above So Below next episode, assuming people still want us to do it.
