Last month we reported that Idris Elba was in talks to star in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, although he wasn’t going to play the lead role. Now it looks like he will be reteaming with his Pacific Rim co-star Charlie Hunnam, who is reportedly headlining the film. Elba will once again be playing a mentor of sorts to him, taking on the role of Sir Bedivere, a Merlin-esque figure that trains Arthur. Guy Ritchie and Warner Brothers are also supposedly zeroing in on a female lead for the film as well. Hit the jump to get the latest scoop on this upcoming project.

According to Variety, Charlie Hunnam is in final negotiations to play King Arthur in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming medieval blockbuster Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur. He supposedly beat out Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard), who also read for the part. Elizabeth Olsen is also said to be the current frontrunner for the female lead.

Earlier this year, Charlie Hunnam won and then turned down the lead role in Fifty Shades of Grey, a decision that some labelled as foolish. It appears that Hunnam still has plenty of big screen opportunities being presented to him, however, as he prepares for the final season of Sons of Anarchy on FX. As for Olsen, her career has quickly taken off following her breakout performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene, immediately leading to roles in other blockbusters like Godzilla and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Do you think they are the right choices to lead a potential six-film King Arthur franchise?
