Just when you thought R-rated comedies had pushed the envelope about as far as they can possibly go, leave it to the Germans to push it even further. David Wnendt’s film Wetlands premiered at Sundance and SXSW earlier this year where it turned a lot of heads with its audacious and raunchy content. Carla Juri plays Helen, a teenage girl who enjoys skateboarding and masturbating in extreme ways. When a shaving accident lands her in the hospital with an anal lesion, however, she find herself striking up a relationship with a male nurse. Despite the initial shock value, the movie seems to be challenging societal norms while also managing some heartfelt moments as well.
