I really enjoyed it and it’s probably my favorite of the Marvel films so far, but I think it’s beat by DoFP because it didn’t have any of those “Holy shit, that’s awesome” scenes like the Quicksilver superspeed scene. But even without a standout scene, it was consistently funny and engaging.

Holy WHAT! This is completely bonkers. I’m still kind of flabbergasted when confronted with evidence that people in the world actually listen to our show, Film junk fans no less! And we have a real life mutual friend! WHAT IS REAL? WHAT IS RECALL?

I thought it was a consistently funny movie in tone. But more clever and snarky rather than laughing out loud. Relatively consistent and definitely a good definition of what a summer blockbuster should be. 3.5 seems about right. Looks like James Gunn is more than capable of handling a big budget script.

“The movie is peppered with lots of pop culture jokes, but before you roll your eyes, realize that it works because Peter Quill is from Earth and he’s clinging onto the things that remind him of home.”

I agree, and this is what makes the Footloose joke funny and not horribly eye-rolling. In Peter Quill’s mind, Footloose is probably still an awesome movie. He’s talking about it semi-sincerely. Nice callback to it later, as well.

I really enjoyed it. It was funny, the action was good and the group had good chemistry. Plenty of cool backdrops too. Great soundtrack. Zoe Saldana. Chris Pratt. Good times.

Quill wasn’t randomly picked up though, they were gonna deliver him to his dad.

I with you on this one Sean – thoroughly enjoyed this film despite the occasionally corny moment. Looking forward to a re-watch and the future GOTG movies. And for some reason I have a burning desire to re-watch Howard the Duck (must be a subliminal Marvel thing).

The only scene I didn’t like was when after Gamora and Starlord have an almost death scene together, the next scene they’re perfectly fine again – not a hair out of place. Other than that, it just cracks my top 5 of 10 Marvel Studio movies.

Nice review. Score does seem high.
Its a 3.5/5 from me. On par with The Avengers but maybe a teeny weeny bit better.
