Rob Zombie Turns to Crowdfunding for New Horror Film 31

A couple of months ago, Rob Zombie released a mysterious teaser trailer for an upcoming project called simply 31. At the time, no one seemed to know what it was, but it appeared unrelated to any of his other previously announced projects like the Manson Family TV mini-series and the Broad Street Bullies movie. The number 31 seemed to indicate an association with October 31st and Halloween… could it be a continuation of the rebooted Halloween franchise? As it turns out, 31 does involve the spooky holiday, but not the John Carpenter franchise. It is an original horror film that will be crowdfunded through another Kickstarter wanna-be called FanBacked. Here’s how
Zombie describes the film:


“Welcome to my next film. It is called 31. It is the story of five random people kidnapped on the five days leading up to Halloween and held hostage in a place called Murder World. While trapped inside this man-made Hell they must fight to survive playing the most violent game known to man… a game called 31.

31 has no rules. 31 has no boundaries. It is ever so simple. Do whatever you can do to kill your opponent before they kill you. Keep this up for 12 hours and freedom is yours.

Who are the opponents? Well… a group of vile, filthy, blood-thirsty clowns known as THE HEADS. They come in all shapes and sizes and each grows nastier than the last.

What kind of film is this you ask? It is a fast paced, mean dirty film for those who like it rough. Get ready for a sick piece of celluloid! This is some hardcore business for the blood-thirsty gore hounds.

I’m crowd funding because I realize that it’s an incredible opportunity to engage the fans. They’ve always been the most important thing for me because, with metal and horror, the fans aren’t just fans – it’s their life, their lifestyle. They live and breathe it, as I do, and any way that you can bring the people that are as passionate about it as you are into the process is a win-win for everybody.

So there you go. Just like with Kickstarter, there are various rewards on offer including a lifetime pass to every Rob Zombie live show ever. While I’m sure some people will once again scoff at the idea of a rich and famous filmmaker asking fans for money, I actually think Zombie’s films are the perfect match for crowdfunding because they are so non-mainstream.     Here we go again, another Rob Zombie movie. I know everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and I get that, but something needs to be said about his past films. Judging by what is already out there it looks like this is just another gory film with clowns in it. It might be a rip off of Saw and The Purge altogether. I’ve seen all of his past films now. I have to say he has a great vision and he has great ideas, but the fact of the matter is he listens to his music fans for his movies rather than the true movie goers and horror fans.
    The gore is okay, but let’s lower the nudity and the sex, I mean it’s ridiculous.
    Rob Zombie did terrible with both H2 and The Lords Of Salem, complete crap. Let’s be original, I don’t know what he thinks when he writes his movie scripts and is in production on set, but please Rob Zombie and his group of fans let’s make something original and scary now. No more terrible B movies.

    Believe it or not, I’m actually a bigger fan of Halloween 2 than his first go-around. Having said that, neither of them are particular good although his premise to add more backstory to Michael Myers was at least ‘interesting’. Haven’t truly liked anything he’s done except for Devil’s Rejects and House of 1000 Dead Corpses.
