Sam Raimi Producing The Last of Us Movie, Maisie Williams Might Star

It was revealed late last year that Sony was working on a feature film based on the Playstation 3 game The Last of Us, making it one of the more recent video games to potentially get a big screen adaptation. Then in March, it was announced that Sam Raimi had come on board as a producer and that the game’s creative director Neil Druckmann would be writing the script. Now we have some additional news to report coming out of Comic-Con as the project appears to be moving full steam ahead. While there is nothing official to report in terms of casting as of yet, they have at least one promising name in the mix to play Ellie. Sam Raimi also hinted that his buddy Bruce Campbell could be involved. Hit the jump for more details.
Sam Raimi appeared at a Comic-Con panel last Friday specifically to discuss The Last of Us movie along with Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed that they had already met with Maisie Williams (better known as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones) about playing Ellie and that she was quite enthusiastic about it. Raimi also promised that they’d try to find a place for Bruce Campbell in the movie, and although some have taken this to mean that he will be playing Joel, it seems highly unlikely that he has the star power necessarily to headline the film.
Raimi also mentioned that they are working on an Evil Dead TV series and it has since been confirmed that Bruce Campbell is attached to star in that. Either way, anything that keeps Bruce Campbell employed is definitely a good thing. On a related note, there is a special live stage show based on The Last of Us happening tonight featuring the game’s voice cast. Are you looking forward to this movie? Who do you think should play Joel and Ellie?
