The Imitation Game Trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch is Alan Turing

imitationgame

Last year Benedict Cumberbatch starred in the Oscar bait-y Julian Assange biopic The Fifth Estate and it essentially fell flat, shot down by critics and audiences alike. This year he is back taking another stab at an awards season biopic with The Imitation Game where he plays legendary British mathematician Alan Turing. The movie focuses on Turing’s exploits during WWII as a codebreaker determined to crack the unbreakable German Enigma cipher. Directed by Morten Tyldum (Headhunters), it looks a little melodramatic but hey, it’s not easy making math exciting for the average moviegoer. The Imitation Game hits theatres on Nov. 21st; check out the U.S. and U.K. trailers after the jump and see what you think.

I’ll watch it, but mainly because I’m interested in the subject matter. Turing’s life was interesting and tragic.

The father of computer science. Sean, you’ve gotta be creaming in your pants for this one. ;)

It’s one of the most incredible true stories of recent history. They essentially own World War 2. Not to mention it’s an INCREDIBLE script which finished number 1 on the Blacklist. Really really excited.

Looks incredibly bio-pic’y and uninspired. Plus I’ve already watched some Turing documentaries so I think I’m good.

If they don’t shy away from how he got fucked over and his suicide it could be interesting. Though as you say if it’s too melodramatic that might lose some of its impact. Still of all the biopics that could happen this is one of the better ideas.
