Rambo V Might Be Happening Again

With The Expendables 3 hitting theatres later this summer and being billed as the final installment, there are plenty of fans wondering what Sylvester Stallone will do next. We know that he is attached to reprise his role as Rocky in the spin-off film Creed, but that seems unlikely to be much more than a cameo. Other than that, we’ve had years of rumours about another Rambo movie but so far nothing has materialized. Last year Entertainment One announced that a Rambo TV series was in development, which seemed to kill the possibility of another sequel. However, this week we are hearing that Rambo V might actually be in development again… could this be Stallone’s next project?
The good folks over at Coming Soon recently got a hold of a press release from German distributor Splendid Film. The rough translation is as follows:
“With Rambo V Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time he goes up against a Mexican cartel. Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of No Country for Old Men. Like the last film, Rambo V is produced by Avi Lerner (The Expendables 1-3).”
Obviously this isn’t much to go on, but it sounds like Avi Lerner and Millennium Films are still behind it and Stallone is indeed involved despite old rumours that they might try to recast the role. However, the plot synopsis sounds a bit different from some of the things we had heard previously. At one point it sounded like Stallone might incorporate elements of the sci-fi novel Hunter, but it had also been hinted that the movie could draw inspiration from Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven. Either way, Stallone’s not getting any younger, so if he’s going to do another Rambo, he had better get moving. Are you still interested in another Rambo movie or was the previous film a good place to end the series?
