Sinister Duo Take on The Outer Limits Movie

Scott Derrickson is quickly becoming a very busy man. After landing the directing gig on Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie earlier this month, he has now signed on for another tantalizing project over at MGM. The movie is a big screen adaptation of the classic ’60s sci-fi series The Outer Limits, the lesser known (but according to some, slightly cooler) cousin of The Twilight Zone. He will reteam with Sinister co-writer C. Robert Cargill, who is also working with him on the Deus Ex movie and the upcoming Sinister sequel. Derrickson won’t be directing Sinister 2, however, and at the moment it’s unclear if he will direct The Outer Limits either.

According to THR, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will pen The Outer Limits for MGM. The movie will be based on the episode “Demon With a Glass Hand”, originally written by Harlan Ellison, which revolves around a man with a computerized hand who is being hunted by aliens and discovers he is from the future. Mark Victor (Poltergeist) is on board as producer.

Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (writers on the last four Saw movies) were previously attached to write an Outer Limits movie but strangely there is no mention of them in this new announcement. Although The Outer Limits has never been turned into a movie, The Twilight Zone was previously adapted for the big screen in 1983. A new Twilight Zone movie is also in the works at Warner Brothers with Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy) at the helm. Are you looking forward to an Outer Limits movie?

I watched Outer Limits occasionally when I was a kid, but I always preferred Twilight Zone. Still, it sounds like an interesting premise.
