Michel Gondry’s Mood Indigo U.S. Trailer

moodindigo

After debuting at a few festivals and getting released theatrically last year in France, Michel Gondry’s Mood Indigo is slowly starting to find its way out to the rest of the world after he decided to trim the running time by over half an hour. Drafthouse Films will be bringing the movie stateside this summer and now this week they have finally released the first domestic trailer for the film. It plays up the charming love story and fantastical visuals, both of which look like classic Gondry… but is he running the risk of simply becoming a parody of himself? Mood Indigo stars Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris and it hits select theatres on July 18th. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I’m interested enough but while this trailer shows all of Gondry’s filmmaking/dream-like itches, having Audrey Tautou in it makes me wonder if this will be the inverse of Science of Sleep with Amelie.

this looks like it would be great for folks who watch a lot of romance anime, so big win for them. personally, I’m so bored by this style I could shit my pants.

I kind of enjoyed it, but overall found it to be exhausting. This film frame by frame is packed with Gondry’s quirkiness and visual inventiveness. Every single detail has to be some sort of whimsical and hyperkinetic experience. For example, going up to a wedding altar ends up being a go kart race through a church with all sorts of crazy things going on in the environment like a space ship with a face on screen.
