Richard Linklater’s Boyhood Trailer

boyhood

After concluding one of the most unique trilogies ever made with Before Midnight, Richard Linklater returns once again this year with another groundbreaking film that presents the experience of growing up by watching actors literally age before our eyes on screen. Unlike the Before trilogy, this isn’t three separate films shot a decade apart; instead, Boyhood is one single film that was shot in installments over a 12 year period with the same cast. You probably don’t need to know much more than that, but the movie also stars Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke along with Linklater’s own daughter Lorelei Linklater and relative unknown Ellar Coltrane (whose breakout performance has clearly been a long time coming). Boyhood hits select theatres on July 11th; check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

This looks great, and I don’t think I would trust a director to follow someone’s life in such a Truman Show fashion unless it were someone like Linklater.

    stoked

This has risen quickly to being one of the top movies I look forward to most this year over the last few months.

Linklater about to make history with this one!

I will definitely watch it, but it is weird how every child actor really starts to look like shit around 17. I bet that is why he stopped the movie at 18.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago. If it’s not in my top three at the end of the year, I’ll be shocked – most likely #1. It’s outstanding!
