Friday the 13th Reboot Gets V/H/S Director

It’s been five years now since Platinum Dunes rebooted the Friday the 13th franchise to decent but unspectacular results. The movie made $91 million worldwide on a $19 million budget, which is not bad but Warner Brothers had been expecting more. They dragged their heels on setting up a sequel and eventually Paramount worked out a deal that would allow them to regain the rights to the franchise. They have since been looking for a writer and director to take the franchise in a new direction, possibly using a found footage conceit. Now that approach is sounding even more likely as one of the directors from the found footage anthology film V/H/S is reportedly on the verge of signing on. Surprisingly, this won’t be a sequel to the last film… instead it is being envisioned as another full franchise reboot.

According to The Wrap, David Bruckner is currently in negotiations to direct a Friday the 13th reboot for Paramount Pictures. Bruckner directed the “Amateur Night” segment from V/H/S, which followed three guys looking to shoot an amateur porn while wearing glasses with a hidden camera. Unfortunately, the girl they bring back to their hotel room gives them a little more than they bargained for. Bruckner also directed one of the segments from the 2007 indie horror film The Signal.

The movie is once again being produced by Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. There has been no official confirmation that it will be a found footage film, but at this point it seems like a safe bet. The one thing we know for sure is that the movie will be released on Friday, March 13th, 2015. Are you interested in another Friday the 13th reboot? Is David Bruckner a solid choice to direct?

I have yet to hear of a single vocal F13 fan voicing anything positive in regards to the found-footage concept.
The fact the studio seemingly has no interest in what their fanbase has to say reinforces the belief they don’t give a shit about this franchise.
For me, it’s done, F13 belongs to the Eighties and my fondness for the series ends there. Not a single watchable entry was made after Part 7.
I hate to jump on the Bay hating bandwagon (TCM and Elm Street were both o.k.), but fuck Platinum Dunes.
