Anton Corbijn’s A Most Wanted Man Trailer Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman

Being a big fan of Anton Corbijn’s last film The American, I was excited to learn that his next project would be another spy movie based on a book by John Le CarrĂ© with Philip Seymour Hoffman in the lead role. After Philip Seymour Hoffman’s unexpected death back in February, however, the movie took on a new importance as it suddenly became one of his final on-screen performances. The film premiered at Sundance earlier this year to mostly positive reviews, but now the rest of us will finally get a chance to see it in theatres this summer.

Based on the new domestic trailer, it looks like another slow burn thriller in the vein of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, albeit one that is set in the modern day. The story revolves around a German intelligence operative named Gunter Bachmann (Hoffman) who is setting up an elaborate trap for a suspected Muslim terrorist in Hamburg. The supporting cast includes Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright and Willem Dafoe, but mostly it’s all about Hoffman and his German accent. A Most Wanted Man hits select theatres on July 25th; check out the new trailer and an additional clip after the jump and see what you think.

Looks good, but I would have liked to see more of Dafoe in the trailer.

I also liked The American when it came out. Been a fan of Anton’s work photographing U2 so when he decided to enter the world of film I was excited and it payed off with The American.

A Man most wanted looks good and I plan on seeing it but man it makes me sad thinking how much I’m gonna miss Hoffman. Loved the man’s work and he always made his screen time worthwhile to watch.

I saw “Author of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and became disinterested. God that movie was fucking boring.
