Drew Goddard to Direct The Sinister Six Movie

Looks like yet another talented writer-director is about to be sucked into the black hole of comic book movies, for better or worse. Although he got his start in TV, Drew Goddard is probably best known for writing Cloverfield and for co-writing and directing The Cabin in the Woods with Joss Whedon. Now Marvel-related stories are going to be his primary focus for the next few years. Back when Marvel announced their plan to develop four original series and a mini-series exclusively for Netflix, Goddard was attached to write the Daredevil series and also to direct the pilot episode. Soon afterward, Sony revealed their own ambitious plans for a series of interconnected movies set in The Amazing Spider-Man universe. Drew Goddard was on board to pen the Sinister Six movie, and we can now confirm that he is in the process of signing on to direct it as well.

According to Deadline, Drew Goddard is entering into final talks to direct the Sinister Six movie for Sony. No release date has been announced but the movie isn’t expected until after The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which is currently slated for June 10th, 2016. Details are still scarce, but this will apparently be their attempt to make an Avengers-style team-up from the perspective of the villains. What remains to be seen is exactly which Spider-Man villains will be involved.

In the comics, the original line-up of The Sinister Six was Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman and The Vulture but it will probably be slightly different for the movie. Thus far, Electro is the only one of these known to be appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We can probably assume The Green Goblin will be involved and Venom may join the group since he will be getting his own movie as well. But will a movie focusing on the villains actually work? Are you looking forward to The Sinister Six and is Drew Goddard the right choice to direct?

so what is this movie even? Is spiderman/andrew garfield supposed to be in it?

I don’t mind the idea of a team of supervillains but I think they had better get some good comedic actors to fill out the roster.

So Sony is getting into the comic multi-franchise game? Outside of Marvel studios most other comics have been hit or miss. WB can’t seem to get their act together despite the fact they have probably two of the biggest properties in the comic universe…it’s either hit with the Batman series by Nolan or really bad miss like the Batman series with Shumacher and let’s not forget the lukewarm reception with Superman begins and the so so success of Man of Steel….Fox doesn’t really know what to do the with the FF or X-men and were so befuddled by Daredevil they just let the license expire back to Marvel. Sony better know what they are getting into.

In the Spider-Man trailer they hint towards the Vulture and Doc Ock, so they will probably be there. If you exchange Sandman and Kraven you only need MYSTERIO as the next villaiin (bout time we see him, even though I wish these movies were any good, the first one was horrendous 2nd one looks the same).

The pic you’ve chosen has the 2nd line-up, with hobgoblin instead of Kraven
