David Fincher Wants Christian Bale to Play Steve Jobs

Sony’s upcoming Steve Jobs biopic just got even more interesting. Last month we learned that David Fincher was in talks to potentially reteam with The Social Network screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and producer Scott Rudin for a movie based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of the Apple co-founder and tech visionary. Unfortunately, it appears that Fincher has not officially signed on as of yet, but there is supposedly a very good reason for that. According to reports, he has stated that he will only direct the movie if Sony agrees to go with his choice for the lead role. And who is his top choice to play Steve Jobs? Just a little known Oscar winner named Christian Bale.
According to The Wrap, Christian Bale is David Fincher’s first and only choice to play Steve Jobs in the upcoming biopic. Bale has not actually been approached about the project as of yet, but he is said to be taking a short break after playing Moses in Ridley Scott’s Exodus. He will also appear in a couple of Terrence Malick films later this year, but he does not have any major projects on the horizon aside from Todd Field’s The Creed of Violence.
Bale has not worked with David Fincher previously, but it’s definitely a team-up that I’m sure we’d all love to see. He does have a physical resemblance to Steve Jobs and he can most certainly act circles around someone like Ashton Kutcher. More importantly, as far as the studio is concerned, he would also be a big box office draw (Jobs made just $35 million worldwide). What do you think, is Christian Bale the right choice to play Steve Jobs or would it be better to go with a relative unknown?
