Monday Morning Box Office Report: Non-Stop Bigger Than Jesus

boxofficenonstop

Liam Neeson ended The Lego Movie‘s reign at the box office this past weekend as his latest action-thriller Non-Stop soared to a $30 million opening. That’s $10 million more than The Grey and Unknown made in their first weekend and it’s even more than the original Taken made. It would seem that Neeson’s appeal as an action star is still growing. In second place, Son of God also did quite well, earning a solid $26.5 million, although that’s nowhere near the $83 million debut of The Passion of the Christ back in 2004. The Lego Movie fell to #3 while The Monuments Men and 3 Days to Kill rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, Frozen continues to hang around in the top 10 and it has now passed $1 billion worldwide.

1. Non-Stop — $30M
2. Son of God — $26.5M
3. The Lego Movie — $21M
4. The Monuments Men — $5M
5. 3 Days to Kill — $4.9M
6. RoboCop — $4.5M
7. Pompeii — $4.3M
8. Frozen — $3.6M
9. About Last Night — $3.4M
10. Ride Along — $3.1M

From what I understand, “Son of God” is nothing more than the Jesus parts of the “Bible” mini series with some deleted scenes (already included on the “Bible” DVD), but isn’t being marketed as such, leaving even people that liked it kind of upset, because they were paying to see something that they already may have even OWNED. What a fucking scam.
