At this point it is just a given that the first week in January will be completely devoid of any major releases with the exception of one horror movie. This year’s entry is Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones… can it put up some big numbers like Texas Chainsaw 3D did last year and The Devil Inside the year before that? Paramount did not release a new Paranormal Activity film last year and it definitely feels like the franchise is flagging, but perhaps this Latino spin-off will breathe new life into the series and surprise us all. Other than that, there are only a handful of other movies hitting select theatres including Open Grave starring Sharlto Copley, Takeshi Kitano’s Beyond Outrage and James Franco’s boundary-pushing documentary Interior.
