Bryan Singer Confirmed for X-Men: Apocalypse, Simon Kinberg Hired to Expand X-Men Movie Universe

Fox is determined to keep the spotlight focused on them this week as more details are starting to come out about the upcoming X-Men sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse. Last week Sony released the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 while Warner Brothers revealed the casting of Wonder Woman, and yet somehow X-Men: Apocalypse is generating more excitement than both of those news stories. It’s kind of sad that a movie due in 2016 is getting all the attention, but I suppose it’s more a reflection of the lack of confidence that fans have in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Batman vs. Superman. Either way, we now know who will direct X-Men: Apocalypse and we have a clearer view of how it will tie in to X-Men: Days of Future Past. Hit the jump for more details.
According to Vulture, Bryan Singer will indeed return to direct X-Men: Apocalypse. It will be his immediate follow-up to X-Men: Days of Future Past, meaning it is the first time he will direct two X-Men movies back to back since X-Men and X2: X-Men United over a decade ago. Clearly he is once again heavily invested in the X-Men franchise, which is not a surprise after the failure of Jack the Giant Slayer.
It is also being reported that X-Men: Apocalypse will focus once again on the new X-Men cast led by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. If you are curious to hear how the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past leads into this movie, head over to FirstShowing.net. Be warned that there are major spoilers, however.
In other news, THR reports that Fox has signed writer/producer Simon Kinberg (Jumper, Sherlock Holmes) to a three-year deal to help expand their own Marvel universe of films. He wrote X-Men: The Last Stand and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, along with the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot so it seems to make sense. However, you have to wonder what happened to Mark Millar, who was also supposed to be overseeing all of this stuff for Fox. Are you happy to see Bryan Singer back doing multiple X-Men movies again? Is Fox taking the right approach with their upcoming comic book movies?
