Florida Theatre Accidentally Shows Nymphomaniac Trailer Before Disney’s Frozen

Although we’ve seen a handful of news stories like this before, you always have to wonder how such a thing can happen “accidentally.” Nevertheless, it appears that some unfortunate kids got a brief lesson in the birds and the bees this past weekend after a theatre in Florida somehow screened a sexually explicit scene before the Disney animated film Frozen. Witnesses say that there were technical difficulties before the movie started, so the theatre decided to throw on an old Mickey Mouse cartoon that may or may not have been Steamboat Willie. Suddenly the clip cut out and was replaced by a sexually explicit scene that played for approximately two minutes. Although the theatre claims that it was simply a random scene from the wrong movie, one person who was in attendance insists that it was actually the red band trailer for Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac. I’m not sure which seems more feasible, but it’s hard to believe that it wasn’t the result of a theatre employee pulling a prank.
The news was first reported by My Fox Tampa Bay (via FilmDrunk), stating that the accident happened at the Regal Cinemas Park Place Stadium 16 in Pinellas Park. Parents reportedly scrambled to cover their youngster’s eyes, although many of them still “got the sound down real good.” The theatre offered free movie tickets to those who were present and also promised to put safeguards in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Some of the furious parents have insisted that free tickets are not enough to make up for the blunder. After all, clearly there should be some additional compensation for the mental pain and anguish caused by nightmares of a nude Shia LaBeouf. On the other hand, I’m not sure what else they can do. What do you think, should the theatre do more to make it up to the families? Do you believe that it truly was an accident?
