Universal Pushes Warcraft to 2016, Seventh Son Also Delayed Again

After some additional jockeying for position among the major blockbusters for 2015, it looks as though Universal has finally acknowledged that their upcoming Warcraft movie is out of its league. Once Disney announced that Star Wars: Episode VII would premiere on the exact same day as Warcraft (Dec. 18th, 2015) and Paramount set Mission: Impossible 5 for the week after, it was clear that Warcraft would have to move or risk getting obliterated at the box office. This week they have announced that the fantasy movie will now hit theatres on March 11th, 2016, which wisely avoids the January / February months. Hit the jump for a list of the other new release dates they have announced including The Mummy reboot.
According to Box Office Mojo, Universal Pictures has announced the following release date changes and additions for 2015 and 2016:
- Untitled Michael Mann Project — Jan. 16, 2015
- The Boy Next Door — Jan. 23, 2015
- The Seventh Son — Feb. 6th, 2015
- Warcraft — Mar. 11, 2016
- The Mummy — Apr. 22, 2016
The Boy Next Door is an upcoming thriller from Rob Cohen starring Jennifer Lopez, while the “Untitled Michael Mann Project” is a techno-thriller starring Chris Hemsworth that previously went under the working title Cyber. As for The Seventh Son starring Jeff Bridges, the movie was originally supposed to hit theatres this past February, and it has been delayed multiple times since then. Now it has been rescheduled again for Feb. 6th, 2015… which definitely does not sound promising. Are you looking forward to any of these movies?
