Quentin Tarantino’s Next Film Will Be Another Western

tarantinowestern

Back at the beginning of the year, just after Django Unchained had hit theatres, Quentin Tarantino was being asked in interviews what he was planning to work on next. As always, there were a variety of answers that he responded with, some of which hinted that he would tackle another era of history to conclude his so-called “alternate history trilogy.” He also had an Inglourious Basterds spin-off in mind called Killer Crow that would focus on African-American soldiers during World War II. However, he also claimed that he wanted to do a “smaller film” more in the vein of Jackie Brown. Well, this week we have another update on what his next project will be and he seems to have changed his mind yet again. According to Tarantino, it’s going to be another western, unrelated to Django Unchained. Here’s what he had to say:

“I can’t talk that much about it, but I will say one thing. I haven’t told anyone about this publicly, but I will say the genre. It’s a Western… It’s not a Django sequel, but it’s another Western, and the thing is I had so much fun doing Django and I love Westerns so much, that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like ‘Well okay, now let me make another one now I know what I’m doing.'”

The quote comes from Tarantino’s recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where he was promoting the new Django Unchained graphic novel. Since he always seems to have a billion ideas floating around in his head at any given time, it’s nearly impossible to tell when one of them will stick. I know there are some QT fans that are still holding out hope for Kill Bill Vol. 3, but last we heard, that probably isn’t happening anymore. Are you looking forward to another western from Tarantino or would you prefer to see him tackle something else instead?

Hmm, well I’d like to see more westerns in general, if we’re only gonna get 10 movies from Tarantino I’d prefer variety. I’m sure he’ll make it novel somehow anyway.

YES! Kill-Bill 2 is my favorite QT movie and I pretty much consider that to be a western and I loved Django so I think it’s probably what he does best for me. Can’t wait.

It’s funny he says “now that I know how to make a western”. Well, Tarantino, Django wasn’t a western. At least not under the hood. It didn’t ever feel like a western. Inglourious Basterds, however, was basically a spaghetti-western (and interestingly enough, that film didn’t feel like a WW2-film).

I was hoping for third Bill, but western would be pretty awesome as well.
